On 15 December, Tim Peake, the first Briton to be selected as an astronaut by ESA, succesfully launched into space and landed on the International Space Station.

This momentous occasion was celebrated all over the UK, and in Wales a special event was held at the Senedd.

150 secondary students from three schools attended the event, where there were several presentations and a Q&A session with astronaut Pedro Duque, before a live stream of the launch was shown. Students then got a chance to explore a variety of space-related stands including the IOP Wales table where they could build computer-simulated and origami rockets.

In the evening, further events were held at Techniquest in Cardiff Bay, including a live screening of Tim's arrival onto the ISS.
